Massawa — The Agriculture Ministry's branch office in the Northern Red Sea region disclosed that various development programs focusing on achieving food security were implemented over the past six months.
The tasks involve construction of embankments and terraces, preventing soil erosion, leveling of land plots, construction and renovation of water reservoirs, as well as distribution of different types of seedlings, among others.
In line with the activities carried out to divert river water flowing from highlands for agricultural purposes, over 100,000 cubic meters of embankments have been put in place in the sub-zones of Nacfa, Afabet, She'ib, Gindae, Gelalo, Foro and Massawa.
Reports also indicated that fruits and vegetables farming in Gahtelai, Demas, Moga'e and Dogoli is making due contribution in backing up endeavors to achieve food security and stabilizing the local market.
