Sierra Leone: World Bank Supports Koroma's Agenda

Freetown — World Bank Country Director has assured government of the bank's commitment to supporting President Ernest Bai Koroma's three-year agenda for change programme.

Ishac Diwan was addressing the press yesterday at the World Bank country office in Freetown as he wrapped up a five-day working visit to the country, during which he met with the president and various government agencies.

Diwan said the purpose of his visit was to firm up previous dialogues between the World Bank and government on the bank's assistance to Sierra Leone across various sectors, including health, education, water, sanitation, energy, roads, sea and air transport infrastructure, private sector development, youth employment, and social protection among others.

He said the bank will also focus on the expansion of basic services through the decentralization programme.

"These projects will help create jobs to ease the unemployment problem in the country," he said.

Diwan is World Bank Director for Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone.
