Kampala — THE UN Secretary General's special envoy for the LRA war affected areas, former Mozambique president Joaquim Chissano, will today brief the Security Council on the effort to end the 23-year-long conflict.
Uganda's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruhakana Rugunda, will chair the council. Addressing journalists in Kampala this week, the International Criminal Court prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, said efforts to have LRA leader Joseph Kony and his commanders arrested had intensified.
He said, while in Bunia in the DR Congo recently, he discussed with MONUC its expanded mandate to help arrest Kony.
He added that all stakeholders in the region had promised cooperation in the arrest.
