It is now fifteen years that president Jammeh has been calling on Gambians to change their attitude and become active agents in the shaping of our own destiny.

Such a call from the leadership of our country is an indication that the president has a strong desire for the development of The Gambia and to ensure that every citizen to harness and utilize his or her potentials.

From close scrutiny of our development process particularly on the part of infrastructure, one can easily come to the conclusion that the government is not relenting in its part of the creating the necessary environment that permits the fulfillment of the people. But, it is one thing to build infrastructure and another to use infrastructure in the right manner.

It takes only a leadership that has at the core of his government policies, the need for the fulfillment of the needs and aspiration of the people to actively engage the people mind their own development process. Besides, development is a process that cannot be accomplished without participants of the people. It is this simple reality that explains why President Jammeh is undertaking any means necessary to make Gambians the architects of their own destiny.

From all indications, The Gambia is on the right path to gaining the economic benefits of infrastructural development. Our resolve to turn the country into a Silicon Valley cannot be materialized without the appropriate infrastructure in place. With the ideal infrastructure in place, the morale of the citizens becomes high and as a result, they are motivated to tap the investment opportunities at their disposal. We will definitely see a different Gambian when most if not all of the infrastructural projects underway have materialized. We will be more conscious of the value of our Gambian identity and be always proud to welcome guests into our midst. This is indeed a vital dimension of dynamic leadership. It is apparent that the visionary and dynamic leadership of president Jammeh is geared towards elevating the social and moral status of the citizenry and as well promote a genuine national development.

The fundamental lesson that we have to draw from our development process is clear. The country has in stock the necessary infrastructure upon which the foundation of our advancement can be build. The president has been calling on the citizenry to change attitude and take ownership of the available resources and build on those resources. It is therefore important for every sober minded Gambian to take a moment of reflection and ask him or her self, now that there is adequate water and electricity, there are good roads, the economy is growing at a stable rate, investment avenues are upon, what should I do as a Gambian? Changing our attitudes to venture into a trade that can permit us to leave reasonable standard of living will aid us to find answer to that question.

The Gambia belongs to all us. It is in the best interest of patriotism to complement the efforts of the government in development.
