Nigeria: We Are Back to the Basics, Says Alli

Lagos — Former captain of Nigeria, Yussuf Alli, has been talking on the direction of the committee for the development of athletics that was recently set up by the Lagos State government. Speaking in a television talk show, Kaakaki on AIT yesterday, Alli decried the decay in track and field and said the focus of the committee was to discover and groom athletes that will wear the nation's colour in the immediate future beginning with the London Olympics.

"We are going after the kids in their early stages. Once we identify these talents, we will teach them the basics of the sports. At their teenage years is the time that these children can still learn. That is the reason why we are starting at the secondary schools", he said.
