A six day training workshop on film production, acting and directing for young people is on the way at the President Award Scheme in Bakau.

The training is being organised by Play Action Gambia (PAGAM) in collaboration with the Youth against AIDS Network- The Gambia (YAAN) and Patriotic Africans Drama Group.

Speaking at the programme, the coordinator of PAGAM, Mbye Bittaye said the training is meant to provide skills to young people interested in performing Arts. He lamented the lack of a performing arts school in the country, explaining that most of them acquire skills in their own ways. He said one becomes an actor, because he or she wants to take it as a career. Mr. Bittaye noted that the Gambia is left behind in performing arts, adding that this training is one way they can empower their people.

This training he said is a one of thing which is expected to continue to help young people. He expressed hope that by the end of the training, participants will be equipped and also share their experiences in their various groups.

A popular Gambian actress, Habibatou Jallow described acting as a good profession. She said young people have the talents but are yet to be exposed.

She advised the young people to be disciplined in their endeavours as they are all working for the same purpose.

Jeraint Hazan, one of the resource persons from the university of arts in London said they are here to learn from the participants what is resourceful and what will be the best approach in order to plan for a bigger program next year.
