Africa: Gaddafi to Be Crowned King of Kings in Accra

Bismark Bebli

17 July 2009

Information picked up by The Chronicle at press time last night indicates that the Libyan leader, Brother Muamur Al Gaddafi would be crowned King of Kings in Africa, next week in a ceremony in Accra, by chiefs in the West African sub-region.

The decision, which has the full backing of the President of Ghana's National House of Chiefs, Naa Prof. Nabila, is said to have incurred the wrath of some chiefs in Ghana, who claim they are not aware of the decision. Naa Prof. Nabila would not comment when this reporter reached him on his cell phone last night, because he would be holding a news conference in Accra today on the matter. However, his colleague chiefs insisted that they were not consulted before the decision was taken. According to them, Gaddafi is not a traditional chief and therefore they do not see why such a title should be conferred on him.

The Libyan leader is said to be the bankroller of the West Africa Conference of Chiefs, Kings and Sultans, therefore the decision to crown him with that title did not come to many as a surprise.

The Chronicle, however, gathered that in inviting the Libyan leader into the country, Naa Prof. Nabila failed to follow protocol. Even the Government and the Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs, this paper gathered, were unaware about the development, as the National President of the Chiefs defied the protocol order and went ahead to invite Mr. Gaddafi to be crowned next week.

Apart from this setback which some chiefs are raising eyebrows over, they also believe that their President was just rewarding the Libya leader for personal reasons. A consensus was also not reached for Naa Nabila to even speak on their behalf at the just ended AU summit.

A government official who was contacted denied knowledge about Gaddafi's proposed title that is going to be conferred on him in Accra. The Chronicle is still following the development.

This move is anti democratic and an assault to the democratic and peace loving people of Ghana. Is he being crowned for constricting democracy and denying the people of Libya freedom for over 4 decades? It will be very unfortunate if this happens in the great land of Ghana casting doubts on the great hope and trust Obama has on this young democracy. This is an exposure of the irresponsibility of the chiefs who stay put in power and encourage African leaders to superglue their throne and impoverish our people. This is why Nigeria CanDo www.nigeriacando.org wants to promote grassroots democracy ensuring that true political power belongs to the people. All democratic shall stand against this.

This is painful news indeed. Forty years of power have finally corrupted Mr. Gaddafi with vanity. Retire Sir, while the world will still remember you as great.

Mr.Gaddafi strikes one,and I dare say, comes across as a man intoxicated with the idea of trying to rival all the mad men of Africa-from the waggish Amin Dada to Emperor Bedel Bokassa!I do not any ruler can survive the fit of megalomania. Gaddafi should be advised to start thinking of conducting a legitimate ballot for his country;good governance is not the absence of opposition or muffled dissenting voice. And if we must be brutally frank the face of this ruler is begining to seem like an old relic in a musuem of terracota statues.

One of the criminal and racist arab invaders can only be 'king of kings' of those of the Arabian Peninsula.

Instead of wasting time with this criminal arab INVADER, the Traditional Rulers should be busy plotting how to toss out gadaffy and the arab invaders, and eradicate their islamic insanity and mental poisoning from Africa.

Ghanaians never cease to amaze me. More than 200 years after slaves’ emancipation and more than 50 years of independence from UK are still not enough to wean them from these kinds of slave mentality. Little wonder people like Rawlings could thrive in such a place that fits the model the West would like to impose on Africans.
