Zimbabwe: Seven Days of Plenty Kicks Off This Week

Harare — A MULTIFARIOUS array of jazz, reggae, sungura and traditional music with a buffet of traditional dishes are the major highlight of this month's edition of the Seven Days of Plenty that kicks off this Saturday and runs until monthend at leading Harare restaurant, Taste of Africa.

Unlike in previous other editions, this month's event promises to be more exciting with its line-up of some of the most

popular names in the local music industry such as Hosiah Chipanga, Andy Brown, Jazz Invitation and Manhattan Jazz billed to thrill revellers as they enjoy their traditional African dishes.

Man of the Mic Inity and talented mbira and marimba ensemble Mhembero Troupe will also use the same opportunity to prove their mettle.

Unveiling the programme early this week, the joint's events, promotions and projects manager and co-ordinator, Trevor Tande, formerly of the Book Café, said the event will kick off with an old skool afternoon performance by Manhattan Jazz before patrons are taken on a lovers' rock reggae session in the evening courtesy of Mic Inity and guest artiste Smiley.

"Sunday will then be a family fun day with Andy Brown, while Monday, which we have decided to call Afro Beats will see Mhembero entertaining people with their traditional vibes of mbira and marimba.

"Tuesday is old skool day with Manhattan Jazz and Wednesday reverberates to the sounds of sungura with Hosiah Chipanga and Calisto "Pop Star" Nyamhute does his thing on Thursday with his Leaders Band.

"Jazz Invitation takes over on Friday to bring the curtain down," he said.

Tande explained the whole idea of having a mixed line-up of performers was to cater for a cosmopolitan audience as well for kids since the event was an ideal family outing.

He hastened to add that the entertainment extravaganza would be made more ambient with the melange of mouth-watering African dishes on offer.

Tande ruled out any cold fears saying they had installed gas heaters and braai stands in the gardens where revellers will be braaing while enjoying their drinks both local and imported drinks.
