After storming into the market barely six months ago, electronics firm, Mobility says it is investing P2.5m to open a Sony Centre in Francistown. The ambitious initiative is set to increase employment opportunities for Batswana and facilitate technology availability in the northern part of the country. The company has already opened a Sony Centre in Gaborone.
Mobility says preparations to set-up a centre in Francistown by the end of the year are an advanced stage.
Sony Centre directs sound resources to staff development, a prerequisite to keep up with the ever-changing market needs and technology challenges.
"We have been sending some of our staff to South Africa for training and this is a continuous process to enable us to stay abreast and forge ahead in our business," Mobility chief operations officer, Pius Storom has said.
The range of products available at the Sony Centre include home and mobile music systems, camcorders and digital cameras, television, computers, and in-car entertainment and playstations.
Storom pointed out that Sony South Africa, in pursuit of the Sony regional growth strategy, settled for Botswana as an attractive investment destination to do business.
Botswana was chosen ahead of other markets in the region because of the country's stable economy and high level of technology.
"We represent a wide range of businesses but we remain globally unique," Storom said.
He added that Sony Centre will strive to fully leverage its uniqueness in aggressively carrying out convergence strategy so that it continues to emotionally touch and excite the heart of its customers as the market needs change with the tide of demand.
Sony Centre has pledged to consistently offer market driven goods and services that have been appropriately designed with lucid style, quality and powered by new innovations.
The Mobility group is primarily focused on consumer electronics such as Sony Audio/Video), Gaming (Sony Playstation), Laptops (Sony VAIO), and Mobile Devices (Sony Ericsson). Mobility group is a 100 percent Botswana-owned company with a current staff compliment of more than 40. It has offices in Lusaka, Zambia and Maputo, Mozambique.
