Luanda — The State secretary for Waters, Luís Filipe da Silva, Thursday in Luanda revealed that his department and the United Nations (UN) created a system which comprises the development of water and sanitary services.
The government official made this comment during the openning of the workshop on the launching of the joint programme of water and sanitation in urban and suburban zones, in the provinces of Luanda and Moxico.
According to Luís Filipe, the project aims at strengthening national capacity in providing basic social services to the population, such as water supply, particularly in vulnerable areas, through institutional autonomy, characterised by active community participation.
The project, he added, will be undertaken with the participation of different UN organs and will be financed by the Spanish government, through the millennium objective fund.
The government official also indicated that concerning sanitation it will be rehabilitated the current residual waters drainage system, construct new sanitation systems and extend existing ones, in order to secure the supply of the precious liquid to 85 per cent of citizens in urban areas.
