Zimbabwe: Allan Chimbetu Happy at Gramma

25 July 2009

Harare — ALLAN Chimbetu says his bosses at Gramma treat him "like a king", although he has not signed a contract with the stable since he took over the band from his late brother Simon in 2005.

He says he has no intention of leaving Gramma, as he is happy with the returns and is inspired to work "extra hard" whenever he goes into the studio. Allan released his third album Simukai and it became available on the market yesterday.

"To be honest, I did not sign anything with Gramma and many people don't know that. In fact, I have decided to continue with my late brother's contract because it was intelligently crafted and that is why I am not nursing all these headaches with my producers.

"At times it's not nice to strain yourself with some of these contracts, because it does affect your work," he said. He might be attracting average audiences during live shows, but Allan believes he possesses everything that many Dendera lovers would like to hear.

The title track, the album's opener, sparkles with superior quality, setting the tone for the album with the eloquence of a piece of great musicianship. Message-wise, its theme is the gospel of unity.

He urges all Dendera music lovers to continue supporting whoever is playing the genre. Allan believes the music has the power to touch people's hearts and transform them for the better.

In the track Marian, Allan laments those who cheat in love. He is against pretenders. But what is more striking about this track is the intricate guitar work he exhibits.

He shares nostalgic moments with Chegutu fans during the festive season in the track Christmas. Mukana, is another danceable track. It appears Allan is fast becoming a "love doctor" as he winds up the album with two more love songs Isabella Aheri and Ringo.
