Kampala — HIS music is decribed as 'soul-afro' and R&B. He is a Ugandan entertainer with an acoustic guitar and an electric voice.
Recently, I attended one of his shows - The Boer II, docked at the riverside Quai de la Gareheld to a group of mostly French-speaking patrons.
Just imagine a Ugandan performing to a French-speaking audience in English, Luganda and Swahili about love. By the end of the first song, the crowd was clapping in rapped anticipation; by the second, he had them singing the chorus, and half-way through the performance, we were his live back-up vocals to his hit single "Boda."
He sang Njagala Gwe, Revolution and Bina Damu among others. My son Michael had been reluctant to attend a show which he figured "would be boring!" As it turned out, he got an opportunity to interact with a performer who is at his very best with live audiences.
Could it be the beginning of Maurice Kirya's accent into international stardom? The Embassy of Uganda was there.....!
