Uganda: Kira Town Council Opposes Take-Over

Kampala — KIRA councillors have petitioned Parliament over the proposed expansion of Kampala district. The councillors, led by their speaker, Betty Naluyima, argued that including Kira town council in the boundaries of the city would violate the 1995 Constitution.

Naluyima said the council was part of Wakiso district and should be left that way.

Last month, local government minister Adolf Mwesige tabled before Parliament the Kampala Capital City Bill, 2009.

The Bill, if approved, will extend the boundaries of Kampala to Wakiso by making parts of Makindye Sabagabo, Entebbe Municipality, areas three kilometers west of the Kampala-Entebbe road and Kira town part of the city.
