Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has disclosed that the state government through the World Bank assisted Local Empowerment and Environmental Management Project LEEMP, has expended well over N679.1million on the execution of community based micro projects in parts of the state.
Suswam said the amount was expended on 430 micro projects sited in 106 communities adding that the projects have all been completed and put to use by the benefiting communities.
Speaking at the commissioning of two bridge projects executed by the LEEMP at Oiji and Ikhobi communities of Apa Local Government Council the governor said that the government assisted the communities with N7.8million and N8.7million to construct the 2-span and 3-span bridges respectively.
Represnted by the Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mr Eugene Aliegba, he observed that the successful completion of the projects was the direct benefit of the strategy adopted by the LEEMP known as the Community Driven Development CDD, without which he noted that the expended fund by government wouldn't have completed the two projects.
