Nigeria: Police Warn Against Rumour Mongering

Gusau — The Zamfara State police command has warned the general public to desist from any insinuation or rumour mongering capable of causing panic or breach of peace in the state. In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer ASP Lawal Abdullahi the command said it had observed that there was general calm all over the state and therefore warned that any person or group that attempts to foment trouble would be arrested and summarily dealt with in accordance with the law.

Zamfara , though the first state to implement Shari'a legal system in Nigeria has not witnessed any religious crisis since Shari'a was introduced. But with the recent sectarian crisis across the northern states, the police found it necessary to issue strong warning against any move that may cause break down of law and order.
