Nigeria: Govt Okays N45 Million For NYSC Facilities

Lagos — Kwara State government has earmarked about N45 million for the upgrading of infrastructural facilities at the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp at Yikpata in Edu Local Government Area of the state, in order to enhance the socio- economic life of corps members posted to the state.

Chairman, Governing Board of the NYSC in the state, Alhaji Zakari Muhammed, stated this at Yikpata, during the swearing-in of 1,080 of the 2009 Second Batch (B) Stream two posted to the state.

According to him, "the government is committed to the development of youths and all hands would be on deck to support the Federal Government's determination to boost the activities of youths especially the development of facilities at the NYSC orientation camps located in Kwara State."

He said by the time the facilities at the camp are upgraded, there would be propensity for the corps members to be up to the task in developing themselves for future opportunities.

Zakari stated that, out of the total sum of money meant for the development of facilities at the orientation camp, a sum of N35million would be committed towards the construction of modern roads leading to the camp and other adjoining locations within the camp.

He said the remaining N10 million would be used to construct modern auditorium that would serve various social functions and programmes of the state office of the NYSC and this would reduce the cost of being expended in organizing various programmes within the camp.The chairman stated further that, apart from this, the state government has been augmenting the cost of the state office of the NYSC during any of its orientations programmes for all the corps members being posted to the state and this has gulped a lot of money every year.

On the three week orientation of the newly posted corps members to the state, Zakari urged them to make use of the orientation to expose themselves to the aims and objectives of the NYSC through eradication of socio-cultural mistrust among the people of the country.

This, he said by ensuring that they are properly integrated and learn on the higher ideals of oneness and development.
