Somalia: 5 Killed After Insurgent Mortars Miss Mogadishu's Port

Mogadishu — The mortars missed their target but hit homes in Mogadishu's Hamarweyne and Hamarjadid districts, witnesses said.

At least 20 other people were wounded by the explosions, according to ambulance drivers who transported wounded victims to local hospitals.

Mogadishu's port was busy with activity as the contents of a large ship were unloaded. Inside sources said the ship's contents included new equipment for the 5,000-strong African Union peacekeeping force (AMISOM) in Mogadishu.

Islamist hardliners are trying to overthrow the Horn of Africa country's UN-backed interim government, which enjoys the support of AMISOM peacekeepers.
