Nigeria: FG to Enforce Compulsory ICT Training in Schools

Lagos — Minister of State for Education, Aishatu Jibril, said on Monday that government would enforce compulsory ICT training at all levels of education.

She made the announcement in Abuja at Stella Maris College while inaugurating the 10th 'Digitest 2009' organised by an NGO, Digital Peer International.

Jibril, represented by the ICT Director in the ministry, Umeh Asemulga, said "ICT today is the language for survival in the world and the bedrock of development in any nation."

She commended the programme, which she said aligned with the current drive by the Federal Government to make its staff and students ICT literate.

"This can only be done by making computer education and training compulsory at all levels of the education, more so that ICT has been a critical tool, not only in teaching and learning, but also in educational management and administration," she added.

The minister urged all the participating students to avail themselves of the opportunity to acquire basic ICT knowledge, to be able to play a critical role

in the rebranding project.

Executive Secretary of Digital Peer International, Festus Olubodun, said the aim of the programme was to build the capacity of the next generation.
