Kampala — TWO suspected cases of polio have been reported in Amuru district.
The Amuru resident district commissioner, Edwin Yakobo Komakech, on Monday said the cases were from Atiak and Koch Goma sub-counties. He identified the affected children as Amos Kidega and Kevin Aneno, both three years old.
The Amuru district health officer, Dr. Francis Odong, said the children were being monitored by the health assistants in their areas. "We have not confined the suspects, but we have put a mechanism that will help monitor their movements as we wait for laboratory results from theirfluid samples sent to Kampala,"he said.
Vaccination against the disease started on Saturday. Odong said over 60,000 children would be vaccinated. He lamented that parents spent their time in gardens instead of taking children for vaccination.
The president of the Rotary Club of Gulu, Grace Amono, asked the district health team to intensify its surveillance and carry home vaccinations.
