Somalia: Parliament Approves to Impose Martial Law to the Country

Somalia — The transitional parliamentarians have held meeting in the Somali capital Mogadishu and approved to impose martial law to the country, officials told said on Wednesday

The legislators' meeting was the second day meeting of the parliamentarians and they had discussed on the TFG president Sharif Sheik Ahmed's decision to impose martial law to the country with flowing three months.

Sheik Aden Mohamed Nor known as (Madobe), the speaker of the transitional parliament was among 480 legislators who were present at the meeting and talked more in the gathering in Mogadishu today.

The Somali MPs had different ideas for the issue as some of them refused to agree with the emergency situation saying that it means a way which the property of people is needed to be taken.

Mohamed Qanyare Afrah, one of those who attended today's meeting and supporting the martial law had requested from the MPs to accept the decision.

Prof. Abdirahman Ibrahim Ibbi, acting prime minister, fishing and resource minister of the transitional government had also appealed from the parliament to approve imposing martial law to the country pointing out that they captured Luq district in Gedo region and planning to hand over other parts of the Somali regions for the following.

After long discussions though some 23 of the law makers opposed the issue lastly 451 of the parliamentarians voted the decision and agreed to impose the martial law to the country as 6 of them remained silence.

It is unclear what the law makers' decision will change the situation of the country as there are more different sides that are fighting in Somalia.
