The colonial Bamenda Central Prison with 329 inmates began a new chapter recently with Lamya Mama Njanjo commissioned to check indiscipline and other speed breaks blamed for the massive escape of some inmates .
The ugly sides of the prison include; lack of fence, aging and few staff, indiscipline on the part of both the inmates and staff, the spread of diseases as well as the dilapidating structures of the prison. Another burning issue is the poor medical and feeding condition of the inmates.
The new prison administrator, 47 year old Lamya Mama Njanjo has the challenged to hasten up the judicial process of the inmates as a bulk of them (187) are still awaiting trial. He has to maintained order in the prison as a whole as well as to tightened security.
Installing the prison administrator, the Regional Delegate for penitentiary administration Musi Marc-tata urged him to ensure that prisoners do not escape owing to the fact that the prison is yet to get a complete fence.
To the out gone administrator Asong Forzong John, he congratulated him for the services rendered adding that the history of the Bamenda central prison can not be completed without mentioning his name
The regional delegate called on all warders to support the new man to ensure that he succeeds. He equally promised collaboration on his part
Upon his appointment Lamya Mama Njango was the prison administrator at the Nkogssamba prison.. He is married with children.
