Windhoek — All roads will be leading to the Oshakati Stadium next Friday where the stage is set for the Tafel Lager Spring Festival headed by one of Namibia's top kwaito artists, Gazza.
This promises to be a unique show because Gazza has lined up a variety of best-selling Namibian artists as well as foreign top artists, including Bliksem from South Africa, Paul G from Angola and Dama do Bling from Mozambique.
The local artists who will be seen in action include DJ Leo, Qonja, Tate Buti, Exit & Mushe, DJ 3, Streetkidz, DJ Remind, Om Zoo, D-Jay, Roger and Gal Level.
Launching the concert in Windhoek, where the sponsorship to the value of N$250000 was handed over to Gazza, Ian Stephenson, Sponsorship Manager of Namibia Breweries, said Tafel Lager is about fun.
"It's spring, so let's celebrate and have fun!" he said. He said his company was eager to grow a platform for local music. "We have been involved with Gazza for many years and we have never been disappointed by putting our money on him," Stephenson said.
Gazza said in selecting the local and foreign artists for the show he was driven by a desire to present the best of the best. He said Dama do Bling, who was an inspiration to him, was a humble superstar who had worked with the likes of Akon.
He said Dama do Bling has been a regular on South Africa's video channel, "Channel O' and last October picked up awards for 'Best Female' and 'Best African Southern' for 'Danca do Remexe'.
Angolan Paul G currently resides in the state of Maryland in the US, where he worked on the release of his debut album that appeared earlier this year.
Gazza said the show is about promoting the whole music industry at large.
"The show will showcase different artists from different backgrounds. Hopefully we can create some collaborations from there. We also want to bring some entertainment to the north," he said.
Patrick Hashingola, Namibia Breweries' Corporate Communication Manager, added that the concert seeks to promote the northern region of Namibia as an entertainment and tourist destination. He said the key focus of the event would be to improve the standard of performance by Namibian artists and to provide a platform for up-coming artists to showcase their talent alongside the best in the music business.
The show starts at 19h00. Tickets are N$40 in advance and N$60 at the gate. VIP tickets cost N$120. Gates open at 18h00.
The organisers have assured the public that tight security will be maintained and that access to under-aged children would be controlled.
