Nigeria: Seun Kuti Takes On Victoria Island

Lagos — "When Seun, the son of late Afrobeat legend (Fela Anikulapo-Kuti), mounted the stage to perform at the Terra Kulture on Victoria Island, crowds that gathered to watch the 27-year-old couldn't help but marvel," a source, who was a member of the crowd said.

Seun Anikulapo-Kuti, who is gradually exceeding the expectations of Afrobeat music lovers, is said to have no doubts stepped completely into his father's shoes. Those present at his recent performance said that Seun gave an outstanding and near-perfect performance at Terra Kulture that top dignitaries like Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka and renowned photographer, Don Barber, couldn't help but wonder if he wasn't just a reincarnation of his father.

Performing with his father's looks and band-Egypt 80, Seun gave the very diverse audience an opening treat by performing some of Fela's classics as well as tracks from his Many Thing album such as 'Think Afrika,' 'Fire Dance,' 'Na Oil' and 'Mosquito Song.' His politics and views have swayed very little from his father's days, as his songs continue to highlight the problems with African governance and their neglect of the masses.

Africa-Related Ltd organised the show, which is expected to become a monthly affair at Terra Kulture on every second Saturday of the month.
