Dr. Paul K. Fokam in a book says African enterprises must fully embrace globalisation and be conscious of what is needed of them so as to speed up their countries' development.
Globalization has been described as a development catalyst if African enterprises were conscious of who they are and where they are going, shun defeatist believes that it is for some people and had their minds focused on issues that advance development.
Dr. Paul K. Fokam made the remark yesterday August 25 at the Africaine Edition (afrédit) premises during a news conference to present a book which he has written on African enterprises in the phase of globalisation.
The book titled, "L'Entreprise Africaine et la Mondialisation", aims to draw public attention on the irresistible nature of globalization. It urges Africans to fully embrace it to build their intelligence and capacities in order to develop the continent. "We cannot afford to be passive; rather we should be conscious of the fact that we have a lot to give to our development", Dr. Fokam said, adding that "we should know our fundamental interest in globalisation. It should be a win-win game". He said enterprise in the book refers to all people and human activities that are development-oriented.
In the 257-page book, divided into three parts and comprising nine chapters, the author handles topics like, the responsibility of the state and international community, globalisation as a trap or opportunity and the problem of trade accords, among others.
Dr. Fokam advocates the consolidation of ties on one hand between enterprises and their strategic partners, the state, suppliers, clients, the work force and schools on their hand. He said education should be oriented to meet an expressed need and that African countries should concentrate their activities on agriculture and mining, among other issues. "We have God-given potentials and we should use them in the right direction. Africans must not wait to be pushed to the wall so as to be given aid, for the conditions can never be favourable", he stressed.
Yesterday's news conference was attended among others by the General Manager of Africaine Edition (afrédit) Simone Edzoa whose publishing house edited the book.
The book, to be officially launched in the weeks ahead, sells at FCFA 10,000 per copy.
