The Acting Secretary General of the Liberia Unification Party (LUP) Miller Catakaw has joined ongoing development efforts embarked upon by some Liberians including politicians, undertaking series of developmental initiatives. He contested the 2005 Presidential and Legislative election on the ticket of the LUP for Representative seat, but lost to Ketterkhumeh Murray of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
The former legislative aspirant is keeping his head above waters, trying to contribute to the developmental drive taking place across the country. The LUP Acting SG is working for his district, District #3 in the Fiamah community where youth have established an association named and styled, Association for the Friends of Miller, in his honor.
The essence of establishing the association is to embark on development programs in the district. As part of its agenda, the association has constructed a bridge in Weasay Community which is easing the problems residents faced to travel from one end to another.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Association of the Friends of Miller, Ivin Maximore who spoke at the dedicatory ceremony of the bridge project said his association undertook the project because of love and commitment to the community and people.
He indicated that the projects valued at over US$1,500 and called on the residents of the Weasay Community to make good use of the bridge. According to Maximore, the Association has also undertaken series of development initiatives such as the donation of computers to the local police depot in Fiamah.
Also speaking at the program, the Acting LUP SG Miller Catakaw in whose honor the association is named told residents of the Weasay Community that the gesture was just the beginning of the many programs the organization has earmarked for the district
He told the residents that the result of the 2005 presidential and Legislative elections did not discourage him from coming back home to engage the district ahead of the 2011 election. Miller Catakaw said the Association has a strong vision for the entire community and that he was prepared to chart in that direction, but said the initiative will be decentralized and will not target one community.
"If you allocate any development in the community and the district at large, call upon our association and we will highly support the initiative," he told the people. He used the gathering to call citizens of the district number three to unite and form a common and bury their difference for the development of the district, but maintained that if the people of the district fail to reconcile, development will only be a mere elusion.
The memorial ceremony was attended by hundreds of residents of the community including youth group, market women, students, elders among others.
