Gombe — Gombe State Government has been given a pass mark for excellent performance by the Senate Committee on Appropriations which held its North East Second Zonal Consultative meeting on inclusive National Budgeting in Nigeria in Gombe. The committee said that it was amazed by the performance of the Governor Muhammad Danjuma Goje-led administration in spite of the meager resources at its disposal.
The Committee, which spoke through Senator Idris Abdullahi Umar after a performance assessment of the administration, declared that, "no sane and responsible person that would visit projects executed by the administration in the last six years that would not commend and score it high".
Briefing newsmen at the end of its tour of projects, which terminated at the Gombe Airport and the ninth project that the committee inspected, the Committee expressed satisfaction with what it saw on the ground as dividends of democracy and applauded the achievements describing them as "monumental and laudable indeed".
While attributing this success to the support and co-operation being received from the State Legislature as an arm of government the Committee said that the state has a good touch of democracy dividends, adding, it is excellent development which deserves thunderous applause by citizens.
At the Airport, the Committee was told that flights were available to all countries of the world as well as domestic flights which are always over booked observing that it was now clear to the authorities that the Gombe Airport would require bigger aircraft to be able to cope with the increasing demands of passengers.
Among the projects visited by the committee included the treatment plant of the Dadin Kowa Regional Water Supply Scheme located 35 kilometers from Gombe metropolis, Cottage hospitals in Hina as well as the Baure -Zambuk - Lubo - Jurara - Ngaji- Bauchi road.
The committee also inspected Gombe township roads, the Gombe N3 billion ultra-modern stadiums, Gombe State Specialist hospital, School of Nursing and Midwifery and Gombe International Hotel and six PHC centers that are waiting commissioning while three cottage hospitals are under construction spread across the three senatorial districts.
