Kampala — Polythene bag manufacturers have asked the Government to lift a ban on the importation and manufacture of plastics and polythene bags.
They argue that laws should instead be formulated to regulate their disposal.
The manufacturers led by Nile Plastic's Lawrence Lugwana, told the finance committee of parliament on Monday that they had acquired new technologies to make polythene bags which were more environmentally friendly.
He presented to the committee a sample polythene bag which he said, decays within 9 months.
