Uyo — The commission of enquiry set up by the Akwa Ibom State government to look into some anomalies surrounding award of contracts of the state airport project has submitted its report.
The chairman of the commission, Justice Ime Umanah stated that members during its sittings received memoranda from communities' individuals and government agencies as well as visiting the project site in Okobo
He explained that the findings and recommendations of the commission would be very useful for the purpose of meeting the expectation of the government in moving the construction of the project forward.
Receiving the report at the Government House Uyo recently, the state Governor Chief Godswil Akpabio said the report would enhance further deliberations and subsequent release of government white paper on the issue.
Akpabio disclosed that the setting up of the commission of enquiry was absolutely necessary as it would assist the present government to iron out certain grey areas on the award of contract for the project at its inception.
He maintained that his administration being proactive, set up the commission not with the intension of witch hunting anybody or institution but as a necessity to establishing the activities of the main expatriate contractor, DynCorp's Incorporation of USA which abandoned the project without notice and left the country.
The commission, he said would also provide records capable of eroding allegations and claims against the state government, which were based on sentiments in order to create confusion and disunity among the peace loving people of the state.
He further stated that in adopting the expected white paper, his administration would not hesitate where necessary to apply due process of the law in recovering any fund misappropriated in contract award and implementation.
"The airport project is very important to the economic welbeing of the state, we want to move forward and as such we do not want conflict of any kind," Akpabio stated.
