Zimbabwe: Tkzee Set to Rock Harare

9 September 2009

Harare — SOUTH African hip-hop and kwaito band TKZee, who rocked the airwaves in the region in the late 1990s, will be in the country in two weeks' time for a one-off show in Harare.

TKZee recently regrouped, seven years after they disbanded. The outfit will hold a single show in Harare at the Borrowdale Race Course on September 25.

They will be partnered by our own Andy Brown who recently released an album Set which is doing fairly well on the local scene.

The TKZee trio of Tokollo Tshabalala, Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala, who shot to prominence with two smash hit singles that both sold over 100 000 copies each, Phalafala in late 1997 and Shibobo in early 1998, will be in the country courtesy of Naran Ameery of Ameery Investments.

Indeed, all eyes will be on this reunion by the three young friends who first met during their high school days to see whether they will still have the touch they exhibited at their peak.

According to The Sowetan newspaper, TKZee released their debut album, Take It Easy, in 1996. In 1997 they came back with Phalafala which was quickly followed by Shibobo.

Shibobo featured former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy and became the fastest and biggest selling CD single by a South African recording artiste in history.

Mabalane released Pantsula 4 Life, Rebel With A Cause, And The Beat Goes On, Bouga Luv Album, Exodus and I Am A King. He also co-owns Faith Records and recently signed a deal with Reebok to produce sneakers called Bouga Luv.

Bala has released a solo album called Lifted Volume One, a compilation of dance gospel songs. He is a member of the Bala Family and Bala Brothers and once worked for Classic FM as a deejay.

The trio is also known for its mastery in dance.
