Nigeria: Water Fronts - Opposition to Amaechi Suffers Setback

Port Harcourt — Opposition to Governor Chibuike Amaechi administration 's decision to demolish water fronts in Port Harcourt suffered reverse on Tuesday as over 4,000 landlords and tenants of Bundu water front, announced their pull out from the litigation against the government.

The landlords and their tenants who briefed the press at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Port Harcourt, had sworn to a nine-point affidavit, taken against the government over the demolition at the High Court Registry, Port Harcourt.

At the briefing, the landlords of the Bundu Water Front led by chairman of their association, Peccus Agamene, and his vice chairman representing the Ijaw group, Baratunaepre Amane, said: "We the landlords of affected areas, on behalf our community, dissociate ourselves from any suit against the state government in this matter."

Stating their reasons for their action, Bundu Water Front Landlords, said they supported government on the basis of its explanation that the exercise was to ensure security of lives and property of the citizens and to transform the shanties into modern habitable place and the payment of compensation to affected landlords.
