An Area court has sentenced a 43 year old businessman, Williams Ebek to five months imprisonment for damaging a Nissan Primera engine lent to him by one Watson Edemeke The prosecutor, Silas Nampan, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 21, 2009 at Karu village.
The prosecutor further stated that the accused borrowed the said Nissan car to travel to Keffi town, for a church programme that will last three days, adding that he drove the vehicle till August 1 and knocked the engine valued at N65,000.
"During investigations, the accused confessed to have committed the offence," the prosecutor said.The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency, saying it was not intentional.
The prosecutor urged the court to try him summarily under section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC)Justice Salisu Garba sentenced him to five months imprisonment or an option of N5,000 fine.
The judge ordered the accused to pay N65,000 compensation to the complainant.
