Maputo — Rice producers in Chokwe district, in the southern Mozambican province of Gaza, say they can no longer achieve their planned increases in production because of high costs and shortage of machinery.
The initial projection was to increase the Chokwe rice harvest from 22,000 tonnes this year to 35,000 tonnes in 2010, in line with the government strategy to eliminate the country's rice deficit by 2011.
