Somalia: Traditional Elders Start Mediating Rival Clan Militias

Somalia — Traditional elders from the Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions have started mediating two clan militias who fought in the border of both regions recently, witnesses told Shabelle radio on Tuesday

Reports from the elders say that they are continuing efforts to solve the conflicts between the two clan militias and protect other clashes between the two sides that start in the region once again.

The elders who are in Jalalaqsi district in Hiran region and Elbaraf are supposed to travel and begin peace walking thought the villages of El-Qoryale, El dher and other villages around the border between the two regions of Middle Shabelle and Hiran region to reach ceasefire agreement.

There have been clashes between the two clan militias recently which caused casualties of deaths, wounds and displacement as the two sides bitterly fought in El Qoryale village.

The peace efforts of the traditional elders from both regions comes as there is tense situation between the two clan militias of both Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions.
