Kampala — THE First Lady and state minister for Karamoja affairs Mrs. Janet Museveni, has participated in a fund raising drive to support safe water projects, including the construction of protected wells for over 50 Primary Schools in Ruhaama in Ntungamo district.
During her visit to the United States, where she attended the Uganda North American Association convention, Mrs. Museveni met with student volunteers for Hands of Hope (HOP), a charity supporting needy women and children in crisis areas.
She discussed ways of promoting education in Uganda with students from various institutions in Chicago.
Some of the volunteers are engaged in a project called School to School, in which they are raising awareness and money to finance water development projects in Ruhaama, the First Lady's constituency.
Led by Mrs. Vicky Wauterlek, HOP is a long- time partner in programmes initiated by Mrs. Museveni for vulnerable rural women and children.
The partnership has helped to build and equip a school in Nakasongola district through the Uganda Women's Effort to Save Orphans.
Recently, HOP built and equipped a new primary school complete with teachers' houses, in Kabuhome in Ruhaama.
