Ondjiva — The bishop of the diocese of Ondjiva city, southern Cunene province, Dom Fernando Guimarães Kevano, highlighted Angolan Government's commitment to the construction and rehabilitation of road infrastructures in the region, with a focus on the recovery of roads and bridges destroyed during the armed conflict.
The prelate said so in Xangongo district, at the inauguration of the bridge over Cunene river. According to him, the efforts made by the central Government, under the leadership of the head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, are reflected on the materialisation of the reconstruction programmes of the road network in the province.
Dom Fernando Kevano said that the bridge will connect Cunene to other provinces and southern Africa countries. Located in the International Trans-Cunene corridor of highway 105, the bridge over Cunene river constitutes the country's longest connecting to the SADC countries.
In addition to the inauguration of the bridge over the Cunene river, the minister reopened the Ondjiva/Humbe road and assessed the state of the Ondjiva/Santa-Clara and Cunene city roads, destroyed during the floods that hit the region.
