Mendefera — A new junior school that was constructed at a cost of over 10 million Nakfa in Adi-Harre administrative area, Mendefera sub-zone, through the assistance of the Chinese government was inaugurated on September 15.
The Minister of Education, Mr. Semere Russom, inaugurated the school which is equipped with 8 classrooms, offices, electric and potable water supply services, football and basketball fields, as well as other facilities. The Minister pointed out that the construction of the school attests to the existing friendly relations between Eritrea and the PRC which continues to gain momentum. He further expressed conviction that the newly constructed school would play significant role in expanding educational opportunities.
Also speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Li Lianshang, commended the close attention being given to students and youths on the part of the people and Government of Eritrea. In this respect, the Ambassador expressed the Chinese government's readiness to extend the necessary support.
The Administrator of the Southern region, Mr. Mustafa Nurhusein, on his part expressed appreciation to the Education Ministry and Chinese experts who made due contribution in the construction of the school. He also called on the local inhabitants to make good use of the facility.
Likewise, the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Abraha Asfaha, pointed out that the construction of the school is exemplary both in terms of efficiency and durability, and as such additional lesson has been drawn in Eritrea's construction programs.
The newly built school is expected to provide educational opportunities to about 750 students, according to reports.
