President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has signed into law a Joint Resolution of the 52nd Legislature, suspending all actions on the unedited final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Speaking Thursday at the Foreign Ministry during a brief signing ceremony with Joint House and Senate Executive Committee members, the President said all Liberians need to study the report and engage in consultations. She reiterated her willingness to work with the Liberia Council of Churches as they lead the process of dialogue in what they hope will lead to true reconciliation.
An Executive Mansion release quotes Senate Executive Committee Chairman Daniel Naatehn, as saying, members of the National Legislature will use the recess period to interact with their constituents on the TRC report. The Joint Resolution, which he indicated was signed by two-thirds of the members of the National Legislature, is to place a stay order on the TRC report.
Present at the ceremony were Gbarpolu County Senator Daniel Naatehn, Grand Cape Mount Senator Abel Massaley, Grand Bassa County Senator Gbezhongar Findley, Montserrado County Representative Dr. Kettehkumehn Murray, Maryland County Representative Dr. Bhofal Chambers and Minister of State for Legal, Economic and Financial Affairs Morris Saytumah.
