Minna — Traders in the Minna Central Market have been ordered to relocate to the ultra modern market in the state capital.
The State Commissioner for Information And Communication, Alh. Aliyu Baba Barau disclosed this in Minna yesterday at a press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council Meeting.
Barau explained that the traders have been directed to move to the new market immediately after the Eid - el - fir celebration next week.
He said after much delay, the government in consultation with leaders of the traders, have resolved to effect the movement without further delay.
Also speaking at the briefing, the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mrs. Salome Ndakotsu, said spare part dealers as well as those engaged in building materials have been given four months to relocate to their new site at the industrial layout.
Ndakotsu explained that 260 out of the 1,200 shops earmarked for the traders at the new site are ready for occupation.
She stated that a private developer is handling the construction of the shops while the state government will provide the required infrastructure such as electricity, access road, water and toilets.
According to her, four new sites are being developed for motor mechanics within the state capital.
The Commissioner said occupants of the first phase of the mechanic village are expected to relocate to the new site in the next four months.
Ndakotsu explained that these measures are aimed at improving on the sanitary condition of Minna as well as restore the original master plan of the state capital.
