Angola: Over 4000 Landmines Removed

Luanda — At least 4,820 anti personnel landmines were removed and destroyed from January 2008 until August 2009 by the operators that are controlled by the Demining Executive Commission, ANGOP learnt last Thursday.

This information was delivered in a press conference, which was given by the head of the Army's General Headquarters Engineering Department, Miguel Kiangala, in the presence of the general director of the National Demining Institute (INAD), Leonardo Severino Sapalo.

Through this exercise, it was cleared 14,937 and 1,153 kilometres of roads and railways, respectively.

The demining process happens under the motto "Let's unite our efforts for an Angola without landmines".
