Kano — The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has condemned the proliferation of sects and Islamic organisations, such as Boko Haram and Darul Islam.

Bayero said Boko Haram and Darul Islam were a threat to the peace of the nation, stating that people should shun religious groups that preach violence and extremism.

According to the emir who spoke after the eid prayer at his palace yesterday, the recent bloodbath caused by the Boko Haram was unfortunate and lamentable,

He said such sects only promote disunity among Muslims.

The emir, therefore, urged parents to keep an eye on their children to avoid the influence of such groups. He also admonished parents to inculcate in their children the teachings of Islam.

He said such associations should be reported as their acts threaten the peace in the country. He also called on preachers to guard their utterances and also avoid inciting comments that would bring instability in the country.

On free mosquito nets distributed by the government, Bayero urged the public to desist from selling them so as to achieve the purpose of its free distribution and checkmating the spread of malaria in the country.

In the same vein, the monarch urged the public to support to government, to fight the disease.

While wishing Muslims a peaceful Sallah celebration, Bayero thanked the government for its effort to develop the state. He also called on the people to support government policies for the attainment of development.

Meanwhile, the Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has stressed the need for the Muslims to live by the lessons of Ramadan. In his goodwill message made available to LEADERSHIP in Kano, Governor Shekarau said the lessons of Ramadan should not be short-lived.

He said: "The significance of fasting is to bring us closer to Allah and to remain conscious of Him in all our undertakings.

It is a means by which we voluntarily abandoned certain legitimate enjoyments as a means of putting the soul to test and promoting its capacity for perseverance.

The social import of the fasting of Ramadan which includes brotherhood, sympathy, kindness and charity are sterling attributes which should be embraced by all in the interest of social harmony."

Wishing the people a happy Sallah festival, the governor thanked them for their support since the inception of his administration.

He assured that, "As a government we shall remain committed to sanitizing the society and lifting our state to greater heights."
