Nile Cricket Club (NCC) are a hurting club. Two weeks ago they were halted in their attempt to inch closer to log leaders Tornado when they suffered a three-wicket loss to Kampala Institute of Cricket Clubs (KICC) and last week they suffered a big blow when their all-rounder Geoffrey 'Job Job' Nyero happened to be one of the seven U-19 national stars that vanished in Canada.
However, they will be looking to make amends when they face Rounders in a tricky Castle Lager National Cricket Premier League tie at Kyambogo oval today. But Ronald Ssemanda, one of two national stars in Nile's ranks, said they weren't bothered by the recent poor track record and were poised to make a return to winning ways.
"It is true we will miss Job Job but we have to move on. People shouldn't judge us by that loss to Kampala Institute of Cricket Clubs (KICC). Yes, it was a blip but we were missing many players but apart from Job Job the rest are back," a pumped Ssemanda told Sunday Monitor.
Bowler Brian Masaba, batsman Abraham Oduch, senior player Bashir 'Badu' Ansasira (who was the U-19s team manager in Canada) and Moses Otiti (fresh from ITF Futures circuits in Burundi and Rwanda) are all back to re-ignite Nile's campaign.
Ssemanda will hope his captain David Musoke and fellow national star Roger Mukasa rise to the occasion and avoid their club from succumbing to a second consecutive loss. Duncan Mugabe, Uganda's number one tennis ace, is also expected to make a debut for Nile.
Rounders, who will be anxious to increase on Nile's woes, will look to skipper Narinder Singh, the Kintu brothers Aggrey and Michael for victory. In the other fixture in the Plate league, SKLPS will face the Castle Devt' side.
