Luanda — At least seven apartments of a five-floor building, mostly known as "prédio do jacaré" or alligator's building in Maianga district, Luanda, were partly destroyed following heavy fire.
The spokesperson of the Fire-Brigade, Faustino Sebastião, told Angop on Monday that due to the proliferation of smoke, other flats and an office on the first floor were also affected.
The incident, according to the source, did not claim any live, but it prompted the immediate evacuation of the building residents.
"The fire started at 5.30 pm, triggered by a generator installed behind the building and lasted five hours. In order to put the fire off about 50 fire-fighters used three cistern vehicles with a capacity of 3000 and 7000 litres", he revealed.
Apart from this incident, the Fire Brigade reported during the weekend throughout the country, 24 fires in the provinces of Luanda, Kwanza Sul, Cabinda and Bié that destroyed 21 houses and three vehicles.
