Uganda: Banyala Cultural Leader Gets Guards

Kampala — THE Government has provided royal guards to Baker Kimeze, the Banyala cultural leader, the kingdom spokesperson has said.

James Rwebikire on Monday said Kimeze was assigned military Police officers last week, following the recent riots in Kayunga districts and other parts of Buganda.

"We asked the Government to give our king royal guards because he (Kimeze) is entitled to them just like other cultural leaders. We thank the President for responding immediately to our request."

Rwebikire said Kimeze was ready to hold talks with Mengo officials so as to resolve the differences between the two kingdoms.

He called on the Police to expedite investigations into suspects who were arrested over the riots.
