Uganda: Kayunga Farmers Embrace Cotton Growing to Fight Poverty

Following the devastation of most coffee plants by the coffee wilt disease and the slump in the price of vanilla, farmers in Kayunga District have resorted to cotton growing to make a living.

Cotton, which was once one of the major cash crops for the people in the district, had been abandoned by all farmers for other crops like maize, pineapple, passion fruits and coffee due to the low prices which were being paid by the government.
