South Africa: Cosatu Warns Manuel

Johannesburg — CONGRESS of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi warned yesterday Cosatu would not tolerate Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel assuming the role of economic planning minister, which had to be filled by Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel.

Vavi said at Cosatu's congress that Manuel was appropriating the role of economic planning, which was not part of an agreement on economic policy made by the ruling alliance last year.
