THE Government has embarked on a project to clear drainage system and provide environmental chemicals in all the constituencies in Lusaka District at a cost of K500 million.
District Commissioner, Christar Kalulu, said in Lusaka yesterday that the district office had sourced the K500 million to prevent outbreaks of water- borne diseases.
Ms Kalulu hoped the clearing of drainage system, fumigation of the surroundings and provision of chlorine for the people in all the constituencies in the district will finish by end of November.
"We do not want to be overwhelmed by cholera as it was last year when no works were done on most drainages and surroundings in the district," Ms Kalulu said.
She said more time would be spent in areas that were mostly hit by the water borne disease last year.
The administration had so far finished works in Munali Constituency and was currently working in Mandevu.
Ms Kalulu said her administration had, however, not received support from the private sector and members of the public towards the exercise and wondered why they did not want to work with the administration.
"I am very disappointed with the private sector and the general public's lack of enthusiasm to the exercise because the two are key stakeholders whose contribution can make the work much easier," she said.
