Uganda: 'Trash Ogoola GF Proposals'

Lominda Afedraru

24 September 2009

The former project head of Uganda Global Fund Implementation Unit, Dr Tiberius Muhebwa, has gone to court seeking orders to annul recommendations by Principal Judge James Ogoola's commission to prosecute him and others over alleged mismanagement of the Fund.

The applicant further wants an order trashing the entire recommendations of the commission made against him in as far as refunding the money misappropriated is concerned and costs.

The commission recommended, among others, that Dr Muhebwa be prosecuted for mismanaging Shs40.1 million which he diverted for the treatment of Mr Mathew Rukikaire in Nairobi.

The commission also recommended that Dr Muhebwa be held liable for loss of funds resulting from mixing the project implementation manuals as well as accusing him of manipulating his way to become the head of the project yet Dr John Mutumba was the qualified person for the post.
