Uganda: Artistes for HIV Test Drive

Kampala — RARELY do our artistes come together for a meaningful cause, but come tomorrow, Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool and Cindy will be part of the "Go Together Know Together" couple HIV counselling and testing campaign."

The campaign, aimed at encouraging couples to test together and know their status will be held at Kyadondo Rugby Club in a public event dubbed "March to the same beat."

It will be a fun day with free HIV counselling and testing for couples, games and a chance to win great prizes. Also on board tomorrow are Hilderman and Henry Tigan, among others.

The artistes will show allegiance by singing and some of them will get tested for HIV with their partners.

Organising the event is the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the AIDS Information Centre, Health Communication Partnership and other partners with support from the USAID.

Only 20-25% of Ugandans have ever tested for HIV and received their results, about 10-12% have done so in the last 12 months, meaning that most of the country does not know their HIV status.
