Addis Abeba — A study conducted by Sunshine Construction Pvt. on the eradication of begging from Ethiopia complete has earned a positive reaction from the Prime Minister's Office and it is going to be tabled for discussion in the House of Peoples Representatives.
The study says poverty as a national problem requires the action of everyone in the country and that way the issue could be addressed. Accordingly, the study recommends that governmental organizations, private companies, NGOs, civil servant and private employees need to contribute 2 percent of their income to achieve the target. The finding of the study indicates over 3 billion birr will be raised in this way each year and if the program is implemented for five consecutive years, the vision of eradicating begging and extreme poverty from the country can be realized, said Sammuel Tafesse, Owner and Managing Director of Sunshine Construction Pvt. Ltd. Co. at the press conference held in his office in connection with the 25th anniversary of the company.
The study envisages the establishment of villages for the purpose, according to Samuel. Orphans and vulnerable children, the retired and elders, street children, HIV/AIDS positive women, beggars, as well as homeless individuals would be provided support and become beneficiaries of the project.
Samuel declined to talk much about the details of the proposal before it is officially discussed and endorsed by the concerned bodies and the House.
In a separate development, Sunshine Construction also plans to construct schools in five regional states for children who are not able to attend school for lack of support. It covers their food expenses and has set aside a budget of 100 thousand birr for each school monthly. In also is planning to construct three villages for elders around Addis Ababa and Dessie town.
Sunshine Construction emerged as a Private Limited Company in September 1993. Currently, it has a capital of over birr 1.3 billion and creates job opportunities for about 7, 200 temporary and permanent employees. The Company is engaged in gravel and asphalt road projects, construction of multi-purpose apartment buildings and resident houses, according to the Managing Director.
