Nairobi — Packaging materials supplier Tetra Pak says it plans to increase by a quarter the recycling rate of its products by encouraging consumers to return packets after use.
These measures are aligned to the goal of recycling all its packaging materials so as to reduce landfills, the company said on Friday.
Currently, the firm recycles its factory waste which is turned into laminated boards that are used for partitioning offices and building low cost houses.
"At Tetra Pak we believe that a package should save more than it costs by providing both environmental and economic benefits," said Tetra Pak Eastern Africa managing director Anders Lindgren.
"We want to lead by example and show what benefits there are of using renewable raw materials and recycling the end product after use," the MD added.
